This was an excellent example of memoir. It made me want to read A Fine White Dust and a couple other Rylant stories that make a little more sense now.

I didn't realize that Cynthia Rylant had such a difficult upbringing. It's interesting to connect her earlier works to some of her life experiences. It always makes more sense when a reader is able to draw a parallel between an author's life and her work.
