I have to say I am tempted to DNF this one. There's been almost no headway in the mystery. Veronica is not someone I would want as a friend, although I do love her independence. But she's kind of a know-it-all, beautiful but harsh. The H doesn't seem to be very bright, although he is mysterious.

As a great fan of the series, I can say that Veronica grows on you with each book, while Stoker is just one big ❤😊! Book 1 is stuffed with so many things that perhaps one may have to grip it hard to finish... but it gets better with next books (all books are not born equal in this series but most are well above average imho). I hope you hold good, else, wish you a better next read 😉

Thanks Grisette. I am determined to finish it. I'm just wary because I ended up not too happy with her other series, Lady Grey. I wanted to take an iron skillet to the Brisbane's head after the first couple books when I just lost patience with him as a romantic lead. He never said one nice thing to Julia, and was smug all the time. Grrr. I find myself reaching for a skillet...

I can see what you mean. I have not read that other series, but I could not get into her latest modern thriller about retired spies. So my conclusion is that only Veronica's world by this author does it for me. And you are right by saying Veronica is not 100% likable in the first book. She gets better, more human as the books go! Stoker is definitely the opposite, I guarantee it! The banter between them is so often gold.
Looking forward to your final review, and see if you liked the 'knife' scene like I did!
I just listened to the knife scene and it was a welcome change in pace for the story. Finally some communication ; ) Loved it!I do like the way the story isn't very predictable.
