Finished chapter 2 (death as social isolation). I find it cute how the gods basically are the blueprint of how ppl shld live. Horus (the son) must keep his father's name alive and live a fruitful life to bring honour to his father, the wife and sister's love and care helps keep the father's soul intact as he ventures into the afterlife

Read chapter 4 - death as dissociation. The amount of importance they place on images/representations is interesting. The fact that there's no distinction between a corpse/mummy and a statue 🤔

Finished chapter 3 - death as enemy. Tbh the topics are really interesting but this book does nottttt need to be this long. The writing is super redundant.

Finished chapter 1. Interesting parallel between embalming recitations and love poems: the dissection of the body with the aim of breathing into it life.

Let's get into it... This is actually an extremely interesting premise about how culture (in general) stems from death, and how culture is our way of distracting ourselves from death and creating meaning to overcome the despair... Gilgamesh and Enkidu were mentioned <3
(I started another book abt the gods but I wanna read the hard copy of that one so I started this one... Still rly wanna learn abt the gods.)
