That can't be the Snow Queen, hahaha. That's ridiculous!
And I'm finding it vaguely offensive that a robot is going to impersonate Andersen (guessing from its name, has to be the robot) because the real Hans Christian is theorised to have been autistic.

All right, that revelation was outta left field. I still don't get WHY, because up to that revelation she wasn't doing evil things & her motivations sounded reasonable. But now she's bad because . . . time-travel split effect? Seriously?
And the character playing "Gerda" doesn't make sense in that role! She already had another fairy tale. "Kai" at least does to an extent, but there's no romance in "The Snow Queen."

Oh, so it IS a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale as suspected from the quotes!
But how is this fuzzy plot going to fit with the story of "The Snow Queen"? Who's going to be the Snow Queen stand-in here? Who's going to be Gerda? Or Kai? And who's going to impersonate Andersen?
I'm just not seeing how, and I fear the square might be made to fit in the circle with a hammer...

Usually, by this point we know :
- What fairy tale the story is going to be about.
- What historical personage The Mirror & co. are going to rescue.
- What fairy tale writer's going to be impersonated.
But this is taking its sweet time and we know nothing yet! And slow as well. I don't know where they'll go back in time to (1800s?), what the fairy tale connection is (Andersen?), and who the protagonist is (Baigh?).

(typing on mobile so I don’t really know how to reply from here) ah, I thought the pacing had to do with it when you mentioned there not being a clear idea of the fable being retold. (but it seems it was just all over the place and it wasn’t a case of it being too slow or too fast.) and tbh the second remark was just going off of some of the implications in what you brought up. my bad!
No worries! I do hope the robot plot doesn't go the way I think it's going because the implications you suspected are going to come true and be a problem.I mean... robot steps in for an autistic person... It just isn't good optics.
We'll see how it goes!
TL wrote: "Ugh lovely (robot thing)..didn't know that about Hans though, interesting"Hard to prove it now, since he's been dead for so long and autism/Asperger's wasn't diagnosed as such back in his day, but there are things that do make some historians think he was in the spectrum, and they make a convincing case when you read the papers.
But even without those, any regular bio of Hans Christian will make you think there was something going on with him, the poor darling was AWKWARD. :)
Yeah... definitely bad optics as I was saying. But I'm only halfway through, so let's hope it doesn't happen.

True, sad we can never know for sure. Makes me wonder how many people in my family were undiagnosed autistics.
I can relate to that haha, awkward humans unite!
TL wrote: "I can relate to that haha, awkward humans unite!"Poor Hans Christian has been theorised to be everything under the sun, from gay to autistic and other things. He was an interesting fellow, easy to misunderstand and misrepresent, so... yeah, lots of speculation, some plausible and likely and others kind of 'out there.'
I should get down to reviewing one of the good biographies for him one day...

Point me in the direction of your favorite when you get to it :)
