The tone changes dramatically from about two-thirds into the book. Sh Keller adopts an almost no-nonsense tone describing the seriousness and discipline the shadhili tariqa requires of its followers. It has several rules that are further explained in detail - both the reasons and consequences of disrespect and not following them.

Keller's writing is lucid, eloquent and informing. Details in the stories of the sheiks and the mannerisms in which they emulate their Sufi ways, bring the reader in to the inner circles of the discourse. His personalized accounts are heartwarming. A definite recommend for seekers on the Sufi path.

The journey towards seeking one's own unstanding of how spiritual masters emulate teachings of their teachers and auliya is so satisfying when one lets go and just follows the sheikh. Provided of course the chosen path and teacher are truly authentic. So far the author's journey is taking him through Jordan and its many corners in the 1980s. Makes me want to read Reliance of the Traveller :)
