Saint Augustine emphasizes Gods love as the priority of all loves, anything before that creates disorder, lack of virtue, and false hope in love. So far all of his writings point us towards having a deeper encounter with God which shows us the greatest love of all, therefore allowing us to love thy neighbor as we love ourselves and to desire to live more virtuously.

He’s my fav, I had to come back on for his Feast day
I think one of Deacon’s wonderful GroupMe messages was a reference to something like this. Along the lines of if one were to love a person more than God, that wouldn’t be love and all that or something.
