The last chapter is a bit sluggish in comparison to the others in my opinion. Nevertheless, this is the most confusing aspect in question perhaps regarding the Hegel's commentary on Spinoza's philosophy. Hegel condiders Spinoza's philosophy comparable to that of the oriental, behind which there is nothing but an abyss of nothingness! How wrong he was! It's kind of sad

I wonder whether it's possible to make Spinoza's philosophy compatible to neuroscience and modern physics and draw a pure materialism out of it. I think this is possible and the only objections I have to this philosophy so far. Hegel is already dealt with in this chapter.

I'm enjoying this book very much. It is an absolute necessary counterargument, well written text that illuminates a specific topic of philosophy. In this chapter Macherey debunks Hegel's take on Spinoza's concept of attributes and substance. He probes both texts with such scrutiny that is of a level pertaining to natural sciences. Very precise and accurate.

It's amazing. I'm enjoying this book so far. Macherey probes both philosophies with such scrutinizing mastery that is awe provoking. His approach is very detective like. He knows both philosophies very well. Too well in my opinion. But he is smart enough not to go overboard condemning Hegel. He simply points out flaws in Hegel's reading of Spinoza. Brilliant

Without reading Spinoza, one is almost hitting a dead end with this book and I'm glad my memory is still fresh on Ethics. So far it is very promising. To my eye Hegel misrepresented the ideas of Spinoza in order for his philosophy to flourish. Calling Spinoza static is quite a mistake in my opinion and has to do with misconception. I can't but think of black holes as an analogy to Hegel's take on substance.
