"We gods have multiple personalities, because you mortals keep changing your minds about what we're like."

Interesting- as much as the gods want to believe they are in charge, mortals really kinda are.

"I forgive you. Not because you deserve it. Not for your sake at all. But because I will not go into oblivion carrying hate when I can carry love."

Wow... one of the best lines ever.

"We're dealing with a Ptolemaic god, from back in the days when the Greeks rulled Egypt"
Hmm another rabbit hole for me to fall down...

"So, there's a god in the box"
At least I'm not the only one to think of Jack In The Box- thanks Apollo!

I know this is supposed to be somber, and it really is, but Meg with the Swedish Fish is making me want them...

Jayson Indeed, it's an interesting approach to take. It's not like American Gods, where you have different regional versions of the same gods. Here, they're singular but have multiple personalities and attributes. Not to get too philosophical, but it's almost a kind of Marcionism, where the Old Testament God is acknowledged to have a totally different personality than the New Testament God.

I guess what it boils down to is that gods are sustained by worship and sacrifice, and who people believe they are worshipping or sacrificing to affects what form gods take. Like diverting the flow of a river to water a different area of crop. 🤷‍♂️

Jenny Clark Makes sense in a way. I hope this will get explored a little more in this series.
I'll need to get to American Gods sometime; sounds good!

Definitely a recommend from me, very thought-provoking stuff, though it does go on a bit too long :)

Jenny Clark 👍 It's also on the guardian list of 1000 books to read before you die, so two birds with one stone!
