It’s been a frustrating day in teaching my struggling son to read, so this was a good reminder that English is a weird mishmash of basically every European language ever. Also, now some of the Latin pronunciations at our classical-based homeschool co-op make more sense to me. So thanks, Mr. Rosen.

Somehow, it didn’t click until I accidentally flipped to the back insert of the book jacket that this is by the author of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. And now I’m all 🤯.

Up to Letter D. So far, I’ve learned about the Phoenician alphabet (cue my kids’ homeschool co-op timeline song getting stuck in my head yet again), multiple theories of how I should be teaching my oldest child to read better, and a party game of codes alongside a history of codebreaking up to the Enigma machine. Who knew a bunch of letters could be so interesting?
