Sure, "sustenance ecology" if it makes you happy, but you're actually talking about tending the garden, which circles back to the Christianity all the disparate parties involved in Yellowstone abandoned so long ago.

Considering what has become of San Fran since then, one finds it troublesome to think Muir didn't have a point, even if his religious reasoning was more than a little suspect.

Curiously, the first modern article I pulled up about this states that Yellowstone is "not due to erupt" because of various and sundry (not very convincingly laid out) reasons, yet the timeline since its previous eruption has been conspicuously shortened still further than was the case in this book.
