I'm not sure if the author is doing this on purpose, but when he referred to the men he said they're professionals (three or four times spelled out completely), however when he talked about the female FBI agent he shortened it to "She's a pro"....

How? How or when did he get in contact with her? I mean the obvious foreshadowing at the beginning was extremely hard to miss that we knew she would appear, but you can't just say something happened that you made clear wasn't going to be possible. He was monitored. How did he do it?
