Reading this for book club at the high school & reached the stopping point for our 1st discussion tomorrow. I started the book on audio & found it too descriptive-not my jam. I also worried the Spanish words & phrases would turn the teens off. But the pace picked up quickly & there is a Spanish glossary in the back! Now, it's all I can do to keep myself from reading the second half & am eager to hear their thoughts!

My initial concerns were correct. They thought it boring and the Spanish was tricky for them. Except chanclas - we had a lively discussion about them 😆 I summarized the first half of the book and we talked about the characters and using context clues to understand the Spanish. I also pointed out the glossary in the back. Some of them seemed more into it by the end of our meeting. We'll see who finishes it!
