This book is infuriating. I get that Jude's had severe childhood trauma, but it's no excuse for literally everyone in his life to continue standing by and knowingly let him continue mutilating himself mentally/physically. It's been 582 pages of "you can't keep doing this", "next time you do this..." or the threats of having him committed if he doesn't stop.....it's been DECADES of the same behavior. FFS. DNF

Well...this was a hard chapter to read and infuriating on so many levels that I don't know where to begin, but I sense that this is where the "slow drop of miseries" becomes a downpour

At this point I'm not even sure why I'm continuing to read this. All the characters are so intensely unlikeable in some way or another, and their "friendship" so threadbare that I have no connection to them at all. It's like a battle to see who's the shittiest, most ableist, "woe is me" out of the group.

I dont know if it's just been a long week or what but these last 60 pages or so have been putting me to sleep. Definitely not helped by the inconsistent chapter lengths - I always find it exhausting to yoyo back and forth.
That being said..the first glimpse of the "misery porn" is coming through and I'm just wondering how swift it's going to become the sole focus

Started reading this several years ago and didn't have the time to commit to it...now I'm apprehensive because of all the talk about it being "misery porn". The prose is beautiful but there's something unwieldy about it...perhaps just the disconnect I feel between/about the characters currently. We'll see if it's possible to finish
