Soth and Strahd meet in front of the castle, and Strahd offers Caradocs location to him. Soth and Azrael keep on his trail, and eventually catch up to him. As Soth gets a hold of him, the mist surrounds him and everything turns into a new world for him. He sees his old self, and Isolde. They welcome him into Dargaard, and everyone is cheering him. Everyone happy and peaceful. Isolde explains that if he chose….

(continued) Strahd tells Caradoc to send Soth a message, and he does. The message was that Strahd did not know why the portal took them back to Barovia, but if they stop fighting his army he will grant them mercy. Caradoc mocks and taunts Soth. Caradoc turns around to find Strahd unamused, and annoyed. Strahd tells Caradoc he is now useless and to leave the castle, as I suspect he would have done to him anyway.

The two meet the gatekeeper, an elven woman and her dog, both appearing as shadows in nothing but darkness around them. In order to pass the gate, they must give her their soul. Soth is able to pass as his soul is already gone, as is Azraels but he was unaware of this as well. Both enter, and it takes them back to a village in Barovia. Angered, they go to the castle and fight an army of skeletons, humans, and zombies

Azrael and Soth enter the son of Duke Gundar, Medrauts lab. They end up fighting him, but he gets the better end to Soth by sorcery. Luckily, after getting struck by lightning from Medrauts wand, Az sneaks behind him and ends up ripping his throat out with his werebadger mouth and kills him. Duke Gundar is in battle with Soth, but turns to mist and hides. The two use Medrauts blood to open the portal, they step in.

Azrael tells his story as the 3 rest. he was a lazy child with no talent to his parents work. Father a blacksmith, mother a jeweler. After getting kicked from the forge for causing a fire, he worked for his mother and broke a pendant. His mother angered him and banished him from work. Azrael kills all of his family and becomes a servant of Strahd in exchange for power. The 3 fight and kill 2 giants, Magda leaves them

The three “allies” are at the room where Kulchek found the gate. Hiding, there is a tentacle, gelatin like creature that performs a power of visions onto them. Soth has visions of his young self facing goblins, Magda has a vision that she is Kulchek fighting, and Azrael slaying his family. Soth breaks out of it and fights. Strahd appears and kills the creature. All 3 ready to fight him, Strahd offers a truce.

The dwarf they met gets caught by Soth. The dwarf reveals his name, Azrael. He wants to serve Soth as a follower, but has the urge to kill Magda. He is a were-rat, more like a badger. Soth declines his offer, and continues on. Azrael still follows, and when he tries to hunt a rabbit he reveals the rune with the paw of Kulcheks hound. That means the gate to leave Barovia is real, and they dig through. To the gate!
