he writes the way my uncles in the village speak. interesting. it's been a while since i've read a nigerian novel that wasn't afraid to do this. i'm really enjoyng the point of view, too. i don't agree with comparing chimamanda to achebe. that's never made sense to me (though, i love her work). but comparing obioma to achebe, YES, i see that clearly in this book, at least.

argh, the tangents are driving me nuts.stick to the main plot, i don't want to know the story behind every item in the room. also, this has that usual super patriarchal feel of an igbo novel written by a man- that's both a complaint and a not to its realness (well, not real in the relationship between my parents, thank goodness, but most others). still, totally addicted to this, though.

a bit meandering, but the narrator and his world are interesting and i have a weakness for nigerian writers and these kinds of stories. i should like this one.
