Goodreaders, does the site have a "fiction with an author as a character" list in listopia? I thought for sure that would exist but I'm not finding one...

Thanks! More like the second one -- I meant *fictional* authors as characters (sorry, should have been more clear). For instance, there are several mysteries where the main character is a mystery author and someone gets killed in a way that resembles their story, so they come under suspicion. That sort of thing.

Mir (I was actually asking because there is a book with an author character that I was trying to track down for a friend, having forgotten the title!)

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) I found this

and will actually try to add books I remember to it. It is a good theme for a list.

There are tons of books with Jane Austen and Lord Byron and that gang and even Agatha Christie as characters..

Interesting question! I suppose it would depend on whether you accept Dante's frame narrative (it was a vision he experienced) or regard it as purely allegorical.

Brenton Lee Brown I see what you mean. More Secret Window, Little Women, et al, less historical figures as characters. Grant Morrison does this in meta fashion with a couple of his series to comment on the creator-character relationship, but that’s a bit different than what you’re requesting. Your interest is in writers as characters as a narrative device?

Mir Yes, but I'm interested in meta-fiction generally as well, so thanks for the reference!
