The prose in this book is lyrical.

Update: Since my parents will never actually read this book themselves, I have taken it upon myself to read it to then, and they loved Stave 1. *happy flailing*

It has begun.

’There are some upon this earth of yours,’ returned the Spirit, ‘who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry, and selfishness in our name, who are as strange to us and all our kith and kin, as if they had never lived. Remember that, and charge their doings on themselves, not us.’
This is just the Ghost of Christmas Present, not God, but wow.

I never thought I’d feel sorry for Ebenezer Scrooge, but here I am. 0_o

Oh my goodness. This is so creepy, and so deep. I don’t believe in ghosts, but I think Dickens has a very good point about missed opportunities to bless people in life.

This isn’t actually the eBook I’m reading... it’s part of a “complete works” collection of Dickens, but as I’m only reading A Christmas Carol out of it for now—and that starts at 99% done—I thought it better to choose an individual book to roughly record my progress than have Goodreads say I’d finished the whole thing when I hadn’t. :P
