I ended up finishing it because I read a review that said that the ending was ... better? than the rest of the book, and it was, but ... that didn't mean much at that point. I did get linked to a short story called "TERMINATION STORIES FOR THE CYBERPUNK DYSTOPIA PROTAGONIST" through the same review, and I would definitely recommend you read/listen to that instead of Immortal Longings. Apparently I can't link to other sites in comments, so you'll have to search, sorry.
