Each story thus far is a surprise to me. I make assumptions about a character's race based on power position and am proven wrong. There is sharp commentary here on how Black men work in concert with patriarchy to suit themselves.

The current story I'm in has a plantation house turned brothel (or something more...?) with a Black woman owner post abolition. The poor mother who begs her to buy her daughter is white.
