Reread before I finally get into the second book! 😁

Just made it to part three and this is a five star read for me. The writing, the adventure, the characters, the plot — I just know this is gonna be one of those books that shift my own writing and what I read/what I’m capable of reading. I’m still so surprised by how much I’m enjoying this book.

There are no sides to be on at this point, just feels 🥺 and the way the perspectives/povs change but it’s all still in third person has attributed to that.

Chapter 12 feels never ending. This just happened though:

“Despite his preoccupations, Ouyang smiled. "She's been a fine gift. I think more highly of the giver." 🤭

“Learn to want something for yourself, Ma Xiuying. Not what someone says you should want. Not what you think you should want. Don't go through life thinking only of duty. When all we have are these brief spans between our nonexistences, why not make the most of the life you're living now? The price is worth it."

It’s like Marco Polo from Netflix but the characters’ personalities have been mixed and matched. I’m seeing this so vividly. Am I a historical fiction girl? 🤭

It’s giving Mulan + Avatar the last air bender + Netflix’s Marco Polo…? If you watched those, it may be easier to form a mental picture of the war and rebellion aspects. I’m surprised that I’m keeping up and interested to keep reading, especially with so much information and the different characters being mentioned.

Maybe a little slow, but there is so much detail that you have no choice but to be immersed into the story and keep reading.
