And must Mr. Parr always be such a gold-digger when it comes to his children's love lives? That, at least, is consistent characterization, I suppose, but makes it hard to reconcile that part of his character with the man Priscilla loved and respected.

Must every man Priscilla converses with ultimately propose marriage (and turn instantly spiteful if rejected)?

Poor dentition, and Priscilla suspects her of "shallow intellect and character" within four sentences without any particular provocation.
