omg that last story w/ Jackson Lake. The utter DEVASTATING self-hatred in Ten, all dropped in that one little brushstroke: “Who knows how ugly things may be beneath the surface. I’ll tell you. Me.” How quiet and sad Ten is, coming off Journeys End (maybe even Waters of Mars). Then having to continue what the Daleks started, to save the Earth when it moves across space. Brilliant, tragically ironic, poignant.

I never dived too deep into DW books, but seeing how MUCH this one emphasizes Ten's passion for activism & deep conviction to help others made my heart sing. The first story's climax hinged on the idea that Ten would sacrifice himself to an enforced cycle of agony/fear to save others. Then the one w/ Rose where he fights for the rights of a species trod on by oil miners. In 2023, this is how ppl see 10. FUCK YES.
