So far this is giving me flashbacks to being 15 years old and trying to plow through extremely problematic Dutch "classics" for oral exams in high school.
That's not a good thing.
Going in, I'd heard some criticism from the black community about Hanya. I now understand where that criticism came from. Don't know why she felt compelled to write about black people this way but it feels off.
