The first chapter is quite good and quite Wesleyan in nature. Carter does emphasize a difference between ‘doctrines’ and ‘opinions,’ and how we ought to be unified in doctrines and in spite of opinions.
I quite like that ideal. However, the ideal begs the question about what do we do when shared institutional resources are put towards opinions we disagree with?
