The section about Dodie’s female relatives in the public swimming baths is hilarious!

Second fave chapter so far is Goodbye to Kingston House. I’m really starting to see now why Dodie Smith wrote the novels she did. Love that.

“When I broke off to eat I had written two pages — which was as far as that story ever got. The heroine had dancing eyes and the only touch of originality was in the spelling” (142).

It’s so fun to read about the books Dodie Smith loved when she was first reading. E Nesbit and Little Women especially.

I love chapter 8 about the two aunts’ weddings in 1903 and what a stylish Edwardian middle class bride needed.
