God I’m so tired but this book’s so good

I KNEW this motherfucker liked Joyce! I knew it! They’re both like the damn kings of ambiguity - makes perfect sense

ones, have a very logical plan for what they’re doing, even if the very logic that they’re employing comes from a place of human dysfunction. If everyone’s dysfunctional, there’s a definite control to that kind of tactic chaos.

It seems like Mike would’ve been a good strategist, at least with the players he involves in his narratives. When you watch The Adventure, there’s an ambiguity to why Anna is discontent with reality and vanishes. When you watch Blow-Up there’s an ambiguity to why the assassins do what they do as well. This story, ‘Four men at sea’, makes me believe that all of his characters, even the seemingly undefined

If this is the kinda shit the characters are thinking in his scenes where they wander or are consumed with thought, it’s almost a shame that his movies aren’t novels. But it also adds another level to his whole process that puts even more depth into his protagonists. Guy has a whole script for their thoughts to use as a basis for their actions, and finds their actions to be enough of an explanation. Brilliant.
