This is a manga adaptation of Ringu (1998). The art is interesting, not really what I expected and leaving something to be desired. The writing is okay but definitely feels rushed for being an English translation and a Manga. It’s obviously very similar to the movie, but has a lot of beats to the original book as well (Ring 1991, Suzuki) Like Ryuji’s character being a pompous a-hole and the accuracy of the tape!

Reiko is so much more panicked in this adaptation which is weirdly good and bad. In the movie, she barely shows any high emotion on her impending death (she does, it’s just usually small and subtle— fits the ambience well), but in this manga, she’s running up walls! Which seems way more appropriate for someone about to die, but sometimes I just need her to stop yelling lmao. Also the Tomoko apparition was SICK!
