Violets main characteristic really is hypocrisy. She demands transparency in all things but keeps secrets. She demands Dain understand she's changed as a person yet refuses to accept that he may actually be a different person to (unless it's bad. He must always suck).

It would have been so much more fun if Violet and Cat got along and had fun ganging up on Xaden instead of whatever bullshit this is.

I look forward to the day where straight people stop getting so hung up on their partners exs existing and writers wanting to justify that animosity by making the ex the worst person in the world. Cat could have been interesting.

If Dain had been evil I would have descended from the sky to fight Yarros myself.

This book is most interesting when she is with her squad and that's not nearly good enough when no side characters are given much if any characterization. Even Rhi barely gets anything.

Man I hope the book actually has a point where her keeping secrets from Xaden while also continuing to die mad about Xaden not being as honest as she wants him to be gets pointed out as further hypocrisy.
Stuff has happened and yet nothing has happened. I am not exactly bored but neither am I on the edge of my seat.

1. The villains are as flat as every other character. There's no life to them, they're not even fun to watch, they're just hollow facsimiles of better villains the author attempts to copy.
2. We are told repeatedly that dragons answer to no one yet dragons keep doing what the humans tell them to do.

Also I wonder (yet doubt) if there will be consequences to the sheer lack of respect given to superiors. Violet flipped Xaden the bird in 4W and no one seems to respect Dain at all and feels comfortable mouthing off whenever they like. Where are the consequences? Also we were told wing leaders can do whatever they like (even if it causes your death) and so far zero evidence that that rule ever matters.
