This book is utterly fascinating. Exquisitely written, it provides a glimpse into the inner workings of the men who carried mathematics forward.

The rants by Hamilton about algebra made me giggle! Then realizing he was best friends with Wordsworth and Coleridge just made my day!

So far it's a VERY good book!

I don't know if I'll ever make it back to this book. I hope I do. I loved learning about the groups of ppl who discovered so much! But really this book is way beyond my level, for now. :)

Elaine I want to buy all the Dover mathematics books, but I’m trying to read my shelves first.
