One might make you
So, learn the gentle art of making enemies.
Your day has finally come
So, wear the hat and do the dance
And let the suit keep wearing you.

" An artist's career always begins tomorrow. ".
Right. Yesterday is but today's memory, and tomorrow is today's dream.

Some critics about Whistler's paintings of the Thames river : " The artist clearly cannot paint water ".
It seems that the abstract was for some critics what quantum physics is for Trump, more precisely a thing used in cooking Béchamel sauce.

Nothing easier, so far.
Step 1 - Find someone who disagrees with you on anything.
Step 2 - Insult them and mock them publicly.
Step 3 - Repeat until you have no friends left.
Tip - For better success, you can practice it in front of a mirror. You know, like de Niro, in Taxi Driver.

Whistler seems a guy to my taste, and I think he has a lot to say, more than " flinging a pot of paint in the public's face" - as Ruskin accused him. It reminds me of Céline, a rebel against everything and nothing. " Art for art's sake " - is also one of my principles, the conventional views on art delight me as much as Trump's delusions, everytime.

There are several reference to the Ruskin/Whistler controversy in my novel. Here's one example:
"...Ruskin condemned Whistler’s work as a fraud, claiming that he took money under false pretenses after flinging a pot of paint in the public’s face. I’ve seen the painting and I think that it’s quite good, but I can understand why Ruskin criticized it so vehemently.”
“Do you think that Ruskin is too conservative, or Whistler too revolutionary?”
“I think that Whistler is a genius, but he’s also a bit of a jackanapes. As for Ruskin, he’s clinging to an old aesthetic and lacks criteria by which to judge the new art. I suppose Ruskin fears for the future, when standards will be thrown out the window and anarchy reigns supreme.”
Inbinder, Gary. The Flower to the Painter . Fireship Press. Kindle Edition.

"The masterpiece should appear as the flower to the painter - perfect in its bud as in its bloom - with no reason to explain its presence - no mission to fulfill - a joy to the artist, a delusion to the philanthropist - a puzzle to the botanist - an accident of sentiment and alliteration to the literary man."
James McNeill Whistler
