84% into the novel and suddenly we have a new POV character? Who is this guy?

I'm not really sure what the plot of this book is supposed to be. It's just kind of ambling along without any real conflict, other than a couple of issues that were resolved immediately after they arose.

I don't buy it. Major conflict resolved too easily.

What year is this set? I thought all the Blockbusters were closed.

Possible relationship on the horizon? They haven't even been on a date.

Kind of embarrassed for her for throwing herself at this guy. Girl has no chill.

I don't find the mother's obsession with one book very believable. I don't find the mother's character very believable in general. Hopefully later we will be given more insight to her behavior. Also, she misses her dad. We get it.

A lot of "telling" going on in chapter 1, plus a fairly lukewarm reaction from the MC to a fairly significant event. Perhaps this scene would have been better saved until later when we know the character better.
