Help, GR friends! Between moving and starting a new job, I've been too overwhelmed to make it through a book. Now I'm hunting for something to more easily capture my interest. I'm thinking historical fiction, maybe set in the U.S.? Suggestions please!!

Diane Lynn HF set in the US, let me see...I was going to suggest Chesapeake but that might be a bit long since you're having trouble making it through a book. How about something by Elswyth Thane, have you read her Williamsburg series? Or Gwen Bristow, I enjoyed Calico Palace. Do you have any particular area of the US in mind? Good luck with whatever you pick up next!

Syd If you'd like a throwback to your time in Appalachia, Fair and Tender Ladies by Lee Smith might fit the bill.

Bree (AnotherLookBook) Diane- That's funny, because I was just thinking about trying another Bristow. Like maybe Deep Summer, since I really enjoyed The Handsome Road? That's not exactly series order, but whatever! Or maybe I'll try another of hers. It would seem to fit the bill. I'm feeling...very American? I don't know. Too long without a good book; I don't know what to feel anymore!

Bree (AnotherLookBook) Sydney- Thanks for the recommendation! Speaking of Appalachia, I actually own a signed novel by an Elkins woman who wrote back in the 20s and 30s. Something first name, last name Preysz. Anyways, I haven't read it yet, but I just couldn't make myself get rid of it when I moved!

Diane Lynn Deep Summer is an excellent book!

Joe If I were a filmmaker, I'd carry around a copy of Kindred by Octavia Butler so that when anyone asked me what I really wanted to make, I'd show that to them. It is not a romance, it's dark fantasy, but may be a good trainer while you're getting your bearings. I also see it's on that reading list of yours that keeps growing like ivy.

Thank you for the recommendation! This one does sound like a good pick. Added to my list!

Growing like ivy...Yes, or maybe even kudzu (aka a foot a day??)...I'd forgotten that Octavia is on my list. Thanks for the reminder, Joseph!
