Scowling out of my bed, I pondered what sort of excuse I would use today to avoid the court.

The word scowling would not normally be used in this way in modern day English and it just stopped the flow of the narrative and interrupt the flow of reading and is bad grammatical. I do ponder if an AI took was used to help write this book
It just feels off and jarring to read!

I give this book ago as another poster asked people too and I was intrigued by the storyline.
I'm dyslexic and I find this book hard to read because the narrative voice does not match the character dialogue, the wording is choppy and just off in some places. There is no placing, the narrative voice overshadows the action and dialogue, making it hard to understand the storyline and the character developed.
