Minho is reckless and impulsive, making him unfit to be a leader. On pages 148 and 149, after Jorge forces him to apologize, Minho immediately takes the Crank off guard and starts attacking him. According to the text, Thomas had to "squeeze against his struggles to escape" (149) in order to defuse the situation. The fact that the group got into so much trouble just due to Minho's impulse shows his incompitence.

It wasn't smart of Thomas to disregard Teresa. Despite her betraying him already, he should still try to gather what information when in such a confused state. The text even states: "As for himself-he felt mostly confused" (356). If I was in Thomas's position, I would have listened to what Teresa told me, especially since she already admitted to and explained her betrayal.

I am worried about Thomas's group if they don't even know when to stay quiet. For example, pages 263 to 265 show the process of Group B capturing Thomas with him continuing to talk despite their threats. On page 264, Teresa even had to say "Talk again and we'll start shooting your friends," showing how bad he was at keeping to himself. If Group A keeps this up, they are sure to get punished for it eventually.

I found it disturbing to see that someone in the town had a gun. This is because no one that the Gladers have met has yet to wield such a weapon. Thomas even said himself: "He's the only one I've seen with something worse than a knife." In his situation, a gun could very well be the most powerful weapon that someone could have, and since they still exist and function properly, who knows how many others are out there?

Thomas is a better leader than Minho. For example, when the group got attacked by the blobs, Thomas was the one who analyzed the situation and came up with a plan. His leadership was especially displayed when he declared "We need to go. We need to go now." Meanwhile, Minho was busy being in shock by the situation, not thinking about the best plan of action. This proves that Thomas is a better leader than Minho.

Thomas has trouble focusing in tense situations. This is demonstrated when he easily gets distracted while trying to rescue Teresa. The text states on page 16 that "Thomas grabbed it, suddenly angry at himself for wasting even a few seconds thinking about the stupid label." Combined with him constantly getting sidetracked by memories proves how Thomas isn't good at paying attention to the task at hand.
