Reading so deep into history makes history itself seem small. I suppose living in Europe helps with this. So much happened from 33 AD until 900 AD that talking about what happened in 1200 AD feels like talking about a fairly recent affair.
Even the protestant reformation begins to feel like it was a few decades ago. Of course, it wasn't. But one's sense of history is really expanded reading these things.

Did a pretty hard core dive into this book and read around 150 pages over the weekend. As much as I'm enjoying this deeply rich treatment of Church history, I'm also ready to move on :D
