For about 20 years, I made my living by forming a theory, testing it in focus groups, and -- if confirmed -- making advertising based on my theory. When there was no time, we acted on gut feelings. We were very lucky. Nothing backfired. While sone intuitive judgement was involved, it was mosly luck.
