Just started this. Immediately clear why it won the National Book Award. Gorgeous writing. Doesn't give a fuck about plot or explaining shit. Love it so far.

It's fine. Don't love it, don't hate it. I see what it's doing and it is mildly interesting.
The characters are .... okay? But I feel a bit at arm's length so I'm not emotionally invested in this story.
It seems like a story about other stories, which I like in theory, but I haven't yet found a home in any of these stories.

We the Animals was one of those life-altering reads for me in that it completely rearranged my idea of what literature can be. Excited to read this one.
