After finishing Graham Masterton's "The Pariah" here is another New England gothic from the same year (I think). I always enjoyed CQY's short stories in the "Shadows" series, but have only read her novelization of "Nomads" because the only other books from her I have ever seen look like very long romantic vampire stories. Anyway, her dedication in this book implies she wrote it to buy a Toyota!

I confess I remember watching the movie, but it was long ago and the only thing I remember about it was I didn't understand it. The book is a fast-paced small town police procedural where we keep getting glimpses of a group of villagers (housewife, teenage basketball player, priest!) snatching unsuspecting strangers and SETTING THEM ON FIRE
