I'm starting to think I just like when fantasy stories are also mysteries. Also, this is the best eccentric detective and sidekick with secrets dynamic I've seen for a while. And this author understands the value of not having the eccentric detective be the POV character

I am so fascinated about the little worldbuilding tidbits scattered throughout this mystery. Worlds just feel so much more organic when characters practically ignore their own circumstances until something breaks what they consider the norm; it makes it feel far more real and fleshed out even if the information given is actually less
