OK, it took about 100 pages to get used to the (slightly archaic) writing style, but now I’m in a groove, and really enjoying this! It is a total riot! Abductions, attempted forced marriages, blackguards, corrupt clergymen—what’s not to love?!

130 pages in, and we’ve finally met our eponymous character! HAHA! Nothing like those verbose Georgians!

Finally have time to get back to this again! I just read a hilarious proposal scene that is undoubtedly from where Jane Austen drew inspiration when writing the ludicrous proposal scene between Mr Collins and Elizabeth! 🤣

It took me three days to work through the lengthy (but excellent) introduction by editor Jocelyn Harris, the note on the text, which unpacks this novel’s complicated editorial, revisionist, and pirated history, and finally Richardson’s preface. So by “page 7” 😅, and now raring to go!!
