Branwen deserves BETTER!!! Maybe it’s cause I’ve never been in love but I cannot understand how Esseilte can be so oblivious to her cousin, her best friend, her heart’s sister’s struggles. She asks so much, has such intense moods and Branwen has support and been there for her through it all and what does she get in return? Heartache and betrayal. If this isn’t a tragedy, I’ll eat this book.

Not so much a tragedy as doomed lovers. I think any experienced reader would see it coming from a mile away but the writing was SO good that it just made it better (wondering how it would all end). I’m glad they all got a (sort of) happy ending. There were some scenes that were a little too explicit for my taste but the nice things about reading is you can skim. 6.5/10

I had to take a little break because I was getting so mad at all of the characters. Except for Branwen. She’s trying so hard and cares so much- it’s not fair. I didn’t enjoy Esseilte in the beginning but no I downright do not like her. She just keeps making everything harder for everyone (especially Branwen- a girl who is practically her sister and would do/has done anything for her).

Sometimes when I’m reading the names my brain just go Elsjdkska. Or I change it to something simpler in my head. Unfortunately, characters whose names start with the same letter sometimes get mixed up so that’s a little confusing. But I LOVE the story itself. Branwen being magically inclined is fascinating and I can’t wait to learn more.

Could be good, could be a slog. There are a lot of Celtic places and names that can make it hard for me to concentrate on the story. I wish I knew which folktale this was based on. Maybe I’ll have to look it up. I think if I have time to really sit down and JUST read, I’m gonna really like this book.
