During WW2, teenager blind Marie-Laure, lives with her father who works at a museum in Paris. Teenager Werner lives with his sister at an orphanage in Germany. Marie and her father have to flee Paris. They carry with them a valuable jewel. Werner's cleverness in fixing machinery wins him a place at an academy for Hitler Youth. As time goes by, he becomes aware of the human cost of the war. Soon these two will meet.
