I should have read the title as a clue. I'm starting to see a single idea behind the anthropology and military missions, one that links the apparently sociological concept of Shared Reality with the observer effect in quantum mechanics.

I've no idea where Nancy Kress will take it from here but I'm intrigued.

This is a little dry but the ideas are interesting.
