While there is no doubt in my mind that Singh can WRITE and love her characterizarion and find her worldbuilding stunning to say the least, the overabundant use of adjectives has made me really weary! I mean she uses them to describe literally EVERYTHING!!! ...I wonder if this is a stunt to cover the fact that the plot is almost absent...

I enjoyed the second half much more but only because I was so depressed and angry with all the stuff that had happened to Honor (and Dmitri) in the first half.It was too much.
I really love Dmitri and admire Honor, the characterization is great, the worldbuiing awsome as usual, but the plot is extremelly slow if not absent and I really really HATE the extreme use of adjectives!!!! Dmitri is "lethally erotic and dangerously gracefull" with a voice both like "a blade and a caress to Honor's pussy", Blubell with eyelashes "dipped in blue and tipped with silver", Honor with "the greenforesty eyes of deep and ancient secrets", Manhatan's night skyline that looks "diamond stunted" and so on and so on...I mean give me a fucking break here!!! So much purple prose borders on Cheesiness terittory! Singh is an excellent writer, she doesn't need these tricks! And that's not even my biggest issue!

I think I should copy-paste this and save me the trouble of writing a review :p

Not harsh! Demanding! Because Singh can really deliver, the woman can write, there's no doubt in my mind, I mean despite all the niggles I still like the book, Love Dmitri and really admire Honor!
...yes the adjectives help with the imagery but the woman goes overboard!! She uses them in every sentence! and like I said "destiny" is a major pet-peeve of mine.

It's true that she's sometimes too descriptive but I don't mind that at all. What made me give it 4 stars was the fact that the heroine was a victim of abuse. Again. I swear, it's a fashion now. ^_^ (view spoiler)

I'm certain that I'll rate it high too, I mean I still like the book and it's Dmitri we're talking about!!! By far the most sexy, mysterious, fascinating and intringuing of them all!!! And Honor is a character I like so far, the abuse subject is dealt really well by Singh and adds depth and realism to her character and yes it is currently a trend but fortunately Singh -unlike other writers- doesn's use it as a way for her heroine to build a backbone since Honor always had one and I really appreciate that!
When I get to that scene at the end I'll let you know what I thought :)
