Two printing errors on p 100: the ‘o’ is missing in “wrong” and the ‘d’ is missing at the end of “practice”.

In this chapter the narrator makes love with a woman. As the description is all from the male narrator’s perspective, it feels as if the man realizes he is making a mistake but continues to complete the task set before him. The woman is pleased enough though the man thought at first he was dying.

An interesting book. I probably haven’t read it in years. Its Byzantine layering of authority and customs seems to be melded to an ancient Chinese tapestry. White is relaying the age-old story that is being told as seen through the lens of the present.
