This book has taken a sharp turn for the worse. What started as an interesting fantasy with people who turn into kittens and tigers, and mages who work magic on the soil and air, has become nothing more than a boring political saga of promising vows and lobbying. This is a chore.

I figured out a big problem with this story--there is very little character development. I feel like I'm reading about a chess match, as if watching one weren't boring enough. I'm still holding out for something interesting, though.
