Sadly, the interesting formula doesn't live up to its full potential once the initial shock value wears off, and the interesting applications it could have for character development are only used to support it in the early chapters but get completely neglected in favour of more generic and plot-driven conveniences. It doesn't help that the conventional action scenes are quite boring and last for quite a while

The split POVs is without question the best and most original thing about Fires of the Dead. It messes with the Game of Thrones formula a bit and sets the stage for what to expect, but it also allows us to see the more diverse personalities that composed a thief crew
