I feel like Freud working with kids is like a professor trying to teach geometry to first graders. Like, they’ll enjoy the shapes, but be confused as f*ck about the equations.
(And this is why the narrator of the other story went into medical rather than law, bc kids are sponges even when they don’t understand, and telling a kid about the oedipus complex etc is just… like that’s too big of a convo. Hold up)

The way people who rely solely on Freud’s teachings apply things like “you didn’t want to outshine your father with your own success” to a 10 year old who just gets nervous talking to girls is WILD

Starting a section on the oedipus complex with the writer accidentally making a landscape painting look like a p*nis when adding color to it in 4th grade art class and then handing it to his mother at home is actually very funny

I should not be surprised to hear of Freud as a cocaine user

Just that whole section is fantastically worded
