Reading on the bus each morning has been a gamble IFYKY this book is surreal and the emotions and action can change on a dime. Phenomenal writing giving almost stream of consciousness with a lot of raw emotion and connection. I have some ideas on the ending but it’s so hard to tell with this book!

Writing my dissertation pretty much killed my “fun” reading for the last few months but now that I’m getting settled in my new job I’m getting back at it …

And what a great place to pick up. This book is such a unique experience and interesting take on fantasy. Twists and turns abound still and despite being in and out of reading I was able to fall right back in and regain the story.

As with the beginning of any fantasy book you have to push on at the start and just own the confusion over places, names, magic, and more. This book has all those fantasy parts, but on top of that is told in an odd, mixed narration voice as well as flipping between three narrative settings.

However at this point it’s taking off; the plot is set, we have our crew, and I’m wondering where this is going.

I saw a TikTok from Jonah Evarts about 24 books he wants to read in 2024 and this one stood out to me! It was the perfect timing as I needed a new book to start today. The start is, as some reviews suggest, confusing, multilayered, but I know in all fantasy you have to push through the first 100 pages and learn what’s going on!
