I knew “Sharp as a Siren’s Song” seemed familiar! It was one of my favorite stories from TIDE & SCALE, a mermaid anthology, with an OCD mermaid and a mishmash of the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and the trope of the girl sent to kill the prince but falling for him. It’s so good. Definitely my favorite in this anthology so far.

“You have an even twelve buttons on your coat, so I suppose that’s a point in your favor. Frankly, if you’d had eleven, I would’ve rethought my choice to not stab you.”

Ari put a hand over his heart. “As you should.”

“The Mermaid Hunt” was a sweet story about two sisters dealing with their mother’s drowning, one of whom believes their mother is a mermaid. It deals with depression and grief and is quite heavy and light at the same time. I’d like to think their mom is actually a mermaid. I guess we’ll never know. <3

Enjoyed the first story. A touching piece about a half siren girl who fights her siren nature and chooses to save a drowning man. Also deals with grief. <3
